Accountability

It's 2010! The beginning of the year feels so fresh and holds so much potential. Our minds tend to think in beginning, middle and end scenarios and that is why it is so crucial to have a plan with a beginning, middle and end for the year. If you have completed the following year and you do not have any baggage, planning in January is like creating on a blank canvas and can be really exciting. The thing is plans are great but if you don't follow them you don't get the results. Most people I know have a hard time following a plan, i.e. diet and exercise, sales actions, writing, reading, studying, time management, etc. without some type of structure that holds them to account. There are many ways to set up a structure. You could hire a coach, join an online community, do a class, create a group, etc. I knew that the only way I would achieve my business goals this year was if I had a partner to do it with. I thought about all of the people I know and I asked one of them who I know is up to big things if she wanted to create and accountability partnership this year and she said "yes". We got together and shared our key objectives for 2010, we meet weekly and we communicate our promised actions daily. It is so empowering. When I come to something on my calendar that I do not want to do, I do it because I told her I would. I am jazzed. I know each of us is going to have one of our best years ever!

Little Things Make a Difference

I have been struggling for a long time with how to keep track of "what I am Not Doing Now" and "what I am "Never Doing Now". If these terms are foreign to you, consider registering in my class, Mission Control: Productivity and Accomplishment. Yes I have those lists in an Excel spreadsheet but I am not trustworthy to check or update them. This week I received this email with instructions and it has changed my life.
Using Apple’s iCal with the Mission Control System
Version 1.0
Apple’s iCal software, has some options that make it
workable for managing Not Doing Now and Never Doing Now lists.
These simple instructions (which I am happy to email you) have allowed me to place my NDN and NVDN items to the right of my calendar, color coded. They are easy to skim and can be moved right into my calendar when I am ready to schedule them. Wow, what a time saver. I now have and even clearer view of the totality of what I have to do and handle!
It's amazing how mentally bogged down I can get when I think I am not accomplishing "enough" and that I have "too much to do". Yet a simple solution like the one above can bring everything into reality and I find that I can easily focus and begin to plough through what I want to get done.
I imagine there is a way to do this in other calendar platforms and would love it if you sent me the information as you experiment with your platforms.

Back on Track

I went under last week with a nasty cold and stopped generating. I accessed power, freedom and peace of mind by surrendering to my body's need to rest and my mind's need to check out. By Sunday I was much better. I have this theory that every time I get sick my spirit is working with me to have a revelation of some kind. I am at disease and my mind and body are attempting to right my balance and move me towards full self-expression! What emerged for me out of this journey was an undeniable urging to get on with the creative expression of writing. I scheduled writing morning pages and I registered in 3 writing classes. I spent 2 hours on Sunday developing characters for my novel. I am so excited about taking on this endeavor that I have no notion of how to accomplish it. I love the process of allowing myself to let go and express without worrying about doing it right and trusting that something extraordinary can flow through me. My productivity has increased like crazy this week, which I believe is a function of being excited by what I imagine my future could be. The other important thing I did this week is write my Lifescript which is a vision of my life in the future that is compelling for me. Reading this vision daily keeps me excited and on focus. I notice that my clients are more productive as well this week. Let me know what future compels you.
